BIO

Anita Sarrafian (b. 1980, New York) is a contemporary painter based in the French countryside on the Geneva border. Her work explores pattern and geometric form in an effort to evoke the compartmentalised aspects of our personalities and identities. Through bright colour palettes and rich textures, she examines the interplay between shapes, textures, and colours, creating dynamic compositions that reflect both structure and fluidity.

With a background in Art History and Fine Arts, she has developed a unique approach that merges her fascination with textile patterns and her desire to communicate personal experiences through a fresh visual language. Drawing inspiration from the intricate designs of textiles and tile work, she reinterprets these traditional motifs with a modern, expressive touch.

Passionate about deconstructing cultural norms, Anita seeks to shift the perception of art once considered purely utilitarian, transforming it into something contemporary and dynamic. Her work continues to evolve as she experiments with different media on both canvas and paper.
